The Operation
For surgery itself, you will be given either a general, epidural
or spinal anesthetic. The surgical procedure consists of removing
or reshaping the bone to facilitate the implantation of the prosthesis.
Once the two separate parts of the implant are in place, they will
be brought together and the surgical incision will be closed. Your
orthopedic surgeon will discuss the specifics of your surgery, and
answer any questions you may have, prior to the procedure.
When you wake up from surgery you can expect to feel tired and groggy
for a short time. Pain medication will be given as needed and you
will be made as comfortable as possible. An IV will be kept in place
to provide fluids and medications and your incision will be drained
with a small tube. |
